Why Your Story Matters (and Why The World Needs to Hear It)
There is no better way for us to connect, than sharing each of our unique stories with one another.
Make sure to stick around to the end for a little message from the author 🙂
The Weight of Your Own Words
Right before you speak, before you write, before you decide to let the world see something real about you, there’s a moment of hesitation.
Maybe your chest tightens. Maybe your brain starts running interference:
Who cares? This isn’t important. No one wants to hear about me.
But that’s a lie.
Your story matters.
People throw that phrase around like it’s some hallmark greeting card slogan, but it’s the truth. The things you’ve lived through, the moments that shaped you, the fears, the heartbreak, the small victories, they’re all part of something bigger than just you.
They hold weight.
And sharing them?
That’s when the magic happens.
Your Story is a Risk…
Some things we hold close to the chest, and for good reason.
I get it. It’s a very vulnerable thing to share the story of your life.
How you, became you.
Maybe your story is painful. Maybe it’s messy. Maybe you don’t even fully understand it yourself yet.
But I promise you, the things we’re most afraid to say are usually the exact things that someone else needs to hear.
…but that’s what makes it powerful
Vulnerability is terrifying, but it’s also magnetic.
Think about the last time someone admitted something real to you. Maybe they told you about their struggles, their fears, their failures.
Did it make you respect them less? Or did it pull you in, make you feel less alone, make you think, Wow, I thought I was the only one?
We spend so much time trying to appear polished, controlled, “fine”.
But in doing that, we cut ourselves off from real connection. Your story isn’t just a collection of things that happened to you—it’s proof that you’re here, that you’ve felt things deeply, that you’ve lived and survived.
That’s not something to hide. That’s something to celebrate.
And sure, not everyone will understand. Not everyone will respond with kindness and shame on them for that.
But the ones who do?
They’re your people.
Ones who will never find if you stay silent.
Your Story Makes Up the Fabric of Who You Are
Your story isn’t just something that happened to you—it’s something that made you.
The experiences you’ve had, the lessons you’ve learned, the moments that broke you and the ones that put you back together—this is what shapes you.
We sometimes downplay our own lives. We think, I’m not interesting enough. I don’t have a story worth telling.
This thought has likely passed through every artist, writer, or thinker who ever existed. Imagine if every person who had something to say swallowed it down instead?
How bleak a world that would be.
Your story has weight, even if it’s not dramatic, even if it’s not wrapped up neatly with a perfect resolution. Because no one else has lived your life exactly the way you have.
No one else has your perspective, your voice, your unique way of seeing the world.
And when you share it—whether in conversation, in writing, in art, in any way that feels right—you claim it.
You honor it.
You acknowledge that it mattered.
And that matters more than you think.
Sharing Helps to Connect Us All
We like to think we’re alone in our struggles. That our fears, our doubts, our pasts are things no one else could possibly understand. A devilish fallacy.
But the second someone else says, Me too, everything shifts.
When you share your story, you create a bridge between yourself and others. You offer a piece of yourself, and in doing so, you invite others to do the same.
This is how we’ve build community. How we’ve built it for millennia.
Breaking down the illusion that we’re all just struggling separately, trapped in our own heads.
Think about the moments in your life when someone else’s words reached you at the right time. When a book, a conversation, a song, or even a stranger’s passing comment made you feel seen.
That’s what sharing your story can do. It can be the thing that reminds someone they’re not crazy, not broken, not alone.
And sometimes, the person who needs to hear your story most is you.
And me! I’d love to hear your unique story. I’ll be engaging in the chat below leading up to and after my post tomorrow!
So, What Are You Waiting For?
There will always be a reason to hold back. There will always be fear, self-doubt, excuses. But at the end of the day, your story is yours. No one else can tell it.
No one else will tell it.
So tell it.
Even if it’s messy. Even if it’s unfinished. Even if your voice shakes.
Because someone out there needs to hear it.
Maybe even you.
Happy Sharing,
Brady
P.S. - This post is in anticipation for tomorrow’s where I will share my story with all of you here. I think it will provide a helpful insight into how my perspective has been shaped up to this point in my life. It’s a story I’ve told in the past, but not with the eyes I have now. I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Such a fantastic read my man! Can’t wait to hear your story tomorrow.
