We’re changing it up a little bit today.
The best way to experience this post is listen to the audio for the “Meditation” section. It’s written to be repeated. In the morning, right before sleep, whenever you need 73 seconds of peace.
Picture the very best memories of your whole life. The ones that you hold dearest to you. Try to choose two or three.
Take a deep breath, and close your eyes.
Let’s begin.
Meditation
Put yourself fully back in that moment. With eyes closed, look around as if you were experiencing it for the first time. Focus on the small details.
What do you see?
Who’s there?
What’s it smell like?
What do you hear?
How do you feel?
Stay there for a minute. Let the emotion that this memory wells up within you fully take control of your awareness.
Shift your awareness to another happy memory and go through the same exercise.
What do you see?
Who’s there?
What’s it smell like?
What do you hear?
How do you feel?
Stay there for a minute.
When you’re ready, open your eyes and come back to the present moment.
Draw your attention to the similarities in these moments. Maybe they’re with the same people, maybe they’re in the same place, maybe you’re doing the same activity.
What do you notice?
I ran through this exercise the other day as I laid my head down to sleep after an overflowing with joy. What I noticed?
Laughter
The sound of my Dad trying to catch his breath, seeing my sister’s eyes squeezed shut and my Mom’s beautiful smile.
What I felt?
Bliss
Laughter shows up again and again in my memories. A staple in this medley of joy.
These silly noises bringing such a permanent light to each moment.
No matter how dark the season, no matter how heavy the heart—laughter is the light.
With Love,
Brady
